Diamond Guide

THE 4C's EDUCATION

The key to a diamond's sparkle

1. DIAMOND CUT

Cut is widely considered the most critical of the 4Cs. It refers not to a diamond's shape (e.g., round, oval, pear) but to how well its facets interact with light. A masterfully cut diamond reflects light internally from one facet to another and disperses it through the top, maximizing brilliance and fire.

UNDERSTANDING THE SCALE

Excellent

Reflects nearly all light that enters the diamond, creating exceptional sparkle.

Very Good

Reflects a high percentage of light, offering superior brilliance.

Good

Reflects a reasonable amount of light, but displays less brilliance than higher grades.

Fair & Poor

Allows much of the light to escape out the sides or bottom, appearing dull.
